Weapon light models page

The KT Defender, Weapon light compatible KT AKELA, and Duty KT AKELA holsters are weapon light compatible.

- The weapon lights available to each handgun model may differ because some fits most but not all (i.e. a full size weapon light may not fit a compact handgun, therefore it is not an available option).

- Each weapon light attaches to the handgun, typically via an accessory rail. These accessory rails typically come in two most common formats, the Military Standard M1913 rail dimension (i.e. 1911, CZ, FN, HK, S&W, Sig Sauer, Walther, etc...), and the Weaver or Glock rail dimension (i.e. Glock, Springfield, etc...).

- Each weapon light manufacturer may have a different method of attaching to the rail. Most light manufacturers provide a set of rail keys that lock onto the accessory rail, typically to fit either the M1913 or Glock rail dimension. If you're not sure of which rail key to use on your handgun and weapon light combination, just contact us and we'll provide you with the optimal setup to ensure a good fit with the holster, email: contact@kt-mech.com

- If you modify your weapon light's attachment method outside of the manufacturer's suggested usage, we may not be able to build a holster for you because it would be very unlikely for us to exactly duplicate your personal craftsmanship, thereby we cannot guarantee a good fit.

NOTICE: Weapon light compatible holsters will retain your firearm about 80-90% via the weapon light's contours. Without the weapon light attached to your firearm, the weapon light compatible holster will still function effectively like the old western style holsters, loose and almost no resistant to draw. Use the right tool for the job instead of trying to compromise. We suggest getting a holster without the weapon light if that's how you plan to carry. Our prices are one of the best and you can always get two that each do their job well.

Weapon Light list and compatibility ratings (The Weapon light rating is in relation to holster use and retention, not the weapon light's functional or usability rating.


	Crimson Trace Light/Lasers * - Not available as an option with KT holsters. CT's current attachment design has no fixed index. The sliding clamp leaves too much room for variance and may cause the weapon light to shift forward and back when holstering and drawing the weapon setup. This would cause fitment issues. Since we guarantee the fitment of our holsters, we can't support these types of weapon light models that aren't designed for holster use.

	DBAL PL * - Not currently available as an option with KT holsters. We have built several holster for the DBAL on a "Send in" process basis. We can't justify acquiring this weapon light model because it is very costly for its very low circulation in the market.

	Inforce APL gen 2 screw type (gen 1 lever type) ***** - Available as an option with KT holsters. Solid build, very good value, very good streamlined design, and works well with Thermoplastic sheet holsters because there are no unusual or irregular and unnecessary protrusions. Currently in use with many Law Enforcement agencies, PMC, and Irregular Military Forces around the world. Easy to use, easy to attach, very intuitive. Includes rail keys to attach to both the Weaver and Military Standard M1913 rail dimensions.

	Inforce APL gen 3 ***** - Available as an option To order, add a comment with any of our weapon light compatible holsters.

	Inforce APLc & APLc-compact** - Available as an option. It is a little small for a good retention but they are available for all KT holster models To order, add a comment with any of our weapon light compatible holsters.

	LaserMax * - Not available as an option with KT holsters. Its current design, specifically the lateral sliding switch doesn't lend itself for KYDEX retention holster use.

	Nebo ProTec and other variants * - Not available as an option with KT holsters. Its current design and unusual protrusions are not conducive for holster use. The bezel's shape and inconsistent index from one sample to another is an issue with Thermoplastic holster fitment.

	Olight PL-2 Valkyrie **** - Feature packed, affordable, and very bright for its size. The PL-2 is a great full size weapon light, comparable to Streamlight's TLR-1/2 and Surefire's X300/X300U. To order, add a comment with any of our weapon light compatible holsters.

	Olight PL-Mini Valkyrie (ver 1) *** - Feature packed, affordable, and very bright for its size. The PL-Mini is a little small for a good retention but they are available for all KT holster models. To order, add a comment with any of our weapon light compatible holsters. Olight PL-Mini 2 not compatible since they've changed the attachment method which allows for to much placement variations. This would result with inconsistent fitment with the holster.

	Sig Sauer Foxtrot1 * - Not available as an option with KT holsters. Its current design and unusual protrusions are not conducive for standard holster use.

	Streamlight TLR-1 / TLR-1HL ***** - Available as an option with KT holsters. Solid build, BEST BANG FOR THE BUCK, very good streamlined design, and works well with Thermoplastic sheet holsters. Currently in use with many Law Enforcement agencies, PMC, and Irregular Military Forces around the world. Easy to use, easy to attach, very intuitive. Includes rail keys to attach to both the Weaver and Military Standard M1913 rail dimensions.	The TLR-1 (TLR-1HL) is by far the most popular weapon light model with US Law Enforcement.

	Streamlight TLR-1HP ***** - Not an available option with standard holsters. Sometimes, Streamlight engineers do funny things. This particular model with a bezel reminiscent of a 1970's flashlight isn't conducive for standard holster use. We do have the KT AKELA Custom-S holster which we may be able to build to accommodate this weapon light. "Send in" process only.

	Streamlight TLR-2 ***** - Available as an option with KT holsters. Solid build, BEST BANG FOR THE BUCK, very good streamlined design, and works well with Thermoplastic sheet holsters. Currently in use with many Law Enforcement agencies, PMC, and Irregular Military Forces around the world. Easy to use, easy to attach, very intuitive. Includes rail keys to attach to both the Weaver and Military Standard M1913 rail dimensions. The laser module is minimal but makes for a tall setup.

	Streamlight TLR-3 **** - Available as an option with KT holsters. Inexpensive and works well with Thermoplastic sheet holsters. Easy to use, easy to attach, very intuitive. Includes rail keys to attach to both the Weaver and Military Standard M1913 rail dimensions.

	Streamlight TLR-4 *- Available as an option with some KT holsters. Inexpensive for a laser/light combo setup. Easy to use, easy to attach, very intuitive. Includes rail keys to attach to both the Weaver and Military Standard M1913 rail dimensions. The TLR-4 is not available with some KT holster models such as the Duty KT AKELA holster because it failed some of our tests for retention and fit consistency. This weapon light is basically the TLR-3 with an after-thought laser module attached to the bottom, without an upgraded attachment method. For this reason, the TLR-4's attachment hardware isn't very sturdy and has a tendency to cant and wedge itself in the holster during our tests. We humbly suggest that you check out the TLR-2 if you haven't yet purchased this weapon light.

	Streamlight TLR-7 * - Not an available as an option with KT holsters at this time. We are a big fan of Streamlight but Unfortunately the TLR-7 isn't conducive for holster use. The current design TLR-7 with its aggressive front corner chamfers does not lend itself well for KYDEX holster retention and use. Sorry. We would suggest the proven design and tank like build of the TLR-1 or Surefire X300/X300U. They are the majority choice of US Police Since we guarantee the fitment of our holsters, we can only offer to build with the weapon light models that are conducive for holster use.

	Streamlight TLR-8 ***- The TLR-8 has enough surface area for the KYDEX holster to capture for retention. It may just be big enough not to be too small. However, it may not be ideal for a large handgun where you would require more surface area to sufficiently stabilize the setup.

	Surefire X300 ***** - Available as an option with KT holsters. Solid build, very good streamlined design, and works well with Thermoplastic sheet holsters. Currently in use with many Law Enforcement agencies, PMC, and Irregular Military Forces around the world. Easy to use, easy to attach, very intuitive.

	Surefire X300 Ultra (A/B)***** - Available as an option with KT holsters. This is the high output version of the X300. Not interchangeable in the same holster with the X300. Notice the longer bezel.

	Surefire X400 / X400 Ultra * - Not available as an option with KT holsters. Its current design and unusual protrusions are not conducive for standard holster use. However, we have been building holster with the X400 / X400 Ultra as a special build. "Send in" process only.

	Surefire XC1 ** - Available as an option with KT holsters. Very expensive for what you get, only usable with full size handguns/rails, very compact and neat appearance. The rail locking mechanism is unusual in that it pushes away from the rail the more you tighten the small screw, and may cause fitment issues, depending on the amount of tension you apply. A small screwdriver or a spear point knife is required to lock and unlock this weapon light to/from the rail.

	TRUGLO Tru-Point Light/Laser **** - Very affordable and is in direct competition with Streamlight's TLR-2 and Surefire's X400/X400U. It has laser built into the bezel so they are more compact than the TLR-2 and X400/X400U. To order, add a comment with any of our weapon light compatible holsters.

	Viridian C5 / C5L ** - Available as an option with KT holsters. Great features, optional attachments allow for a full size or compact handgun/rail. We can build the holster with the ECR (Enhanced Combat Readiness) feature for $15 by request. This weapon light is not cheap but the materials used for construction are. Common issues are the rubber gaskets wear out and fall off over time. The rubber buttons are soft and peel off over time. This weapon light is great for the range and showing off to a friend, however may not be ideal for actual combat, Military, or Duty use because adjustments and attachments require very small tools that are easy to lose and you'll have to carry them with you.

	Viridian X5L gen 2 *** - Available as an option with KT holsters. Great features, optional attachments allow for a full size or compact handgun/rail. We can build the holster with the ECR (Enhanced Combat Readiness) feature for $15 by request. This weapon light is not cheap but the materials used for construction are. Common issues are the rubber gaskets wear out and fall off over time. The rubber buttons are soft and peel off over time. This weapon light is great for the range and showing off to a friend. The X5L gen 2 is slightly more rugged than the C5/C5L.



	Holster Safety

The KT Defender, Weapon light compatible KT AKELA, and Duty KT AKELA holsters are weapon light compatible.
