Adding a weapon light to your handgun will help you shoot better.
A heavier handgun is easier to shoot because its mass creates more inertia, which allows the firearm to absorb and resist the sudden forces of recoil and shooter movement.
The physics and mechanics behind this include:
1. Reduced Felt Recoil: When a bullet is fired, an equal and opposite force pushes back. A heavier gun requires more force to move, meaning less of that energy is transferred into your wrists and palms.
2. Less Muzzle Flip: The extra mass dampens the upward snap of the barrel (muzzle rise). This makes it significantly easier to keep the gun aimed and allows for faster, more accurate follow-up shots.
3. Enhanced Stability: The weight prevents the gun from swaying as much in your hands while you are aiming. It helps to mask minor hand tremors or imperfections in your grip, providing a much steadier sight picture.
Installing a weapon light on your handgun is one of the easiest ways to add mass to your firearm. The more CR123 batteries the light takes, the better.
Available Weapon Light Options
The LIST:
Here is the list of weapon light models that we currently build holsters for. Since we guarantee the fitment of our holsters, we are limited to weapon light models that are conducive for KYDEX holster use.
The RATINGS:
Next to each weapon light is the “RR” or "Retention Rating." The “Retention Rating” represents how well the weapon light will retain or fit in the holster. Some weapon light models are smaller in size which means they’ll have less surface area for the holster to hold onto; therefore they will typically have a lower “Retention Rating." Full size weapon lights such as the Surefire X300U and the Streamlight TLR-1HL allow for more stability in the holster so they will typically have a higher "Retention Rating." Full size weapon lights also produce a higher quality light and are built tougher, that's why they are the most popular models with Law Enforcement.
NOTICE 1 Baun 1000 Lumen Tac Light
This is a great value light and it is becoming very popular. Although it looks like a TLR-1, it is not interchangeable in the same holster as a TLR-1.
We can build the holster with the Braun 1000 Lumen Tac Light if you let us know. On the weapon light options, please choose “other” and add a comment that you have the Braun 1000 Lumen Tac Light. Thank you!
NOTICE 2 Weapon Light Wrap
A weapon light with tape or wrap changes the dimensions of the weapon light. This means that it will no longer fit in the holster that’s made for that light.
For a proper fit in the holster, you will need to remove the tape, or wrap, or bezel add-on.
Q. Why my light is not on this list?
A. Because we only want happy customers. If it's not on this list, it's proably not great for KYDEX holster use.
Not ideal example 1:
Cloud Defense EPL
Some weapon light models are not interchangeable from one sample to another. An example is the Cloud Defense EPL since it has a chamfer on the bezel. The bezel is the forward most part that the lens and light emitter are housed in. The chamfers are the flat parts around the bezel, indicated in green on the sample image below. ↓
In some cases, the position of the chamfer on the Cloud Defense EPL’s bezel is in a different position from one EPL to another EPL. This makes for inconsistent fitment in the holster because this changes the bezel’s position, which may not match that of the holster.
For that reason, we don’t stock the Cloud Defense EPL because it may not even match the Cloud Defense EPL that you personally have.
Knowing these potential issues, if you still want a holster for your Cloud Defense EPL , we can build you a holster if you can send us your light. Just add a comment with your holster order. Also be aware that your holster is not refundable if you're not happy with the fit because you have been warned.
Notice: The Cloud Defense EPL is not interchangeable in the same holster as the Surefire X300, X300U, nor X300T.
On the weapon light models list on the right column →, you’ll find the weapon light models that we’ve tested and found to work well in a KYDEX holster. Next to each light is the Retention Rating (RR). It’s best to choose a weapon light that has a higher Retention Rating if you want a light that works well in the holster.
Not ideal example 2:
Surefire XC3
Similar to the Cloud Defense EPL’s issue, the Surefire XC3 has a milled bezel. This bezel feature may not be in the same position from one XC3 sample to another. This means the one XC3 may not fit as well as another XC3.
Knowing these potential issues, if you still want a holster for your Surefire XC3 , we can build you a holster if you can send us your light. Just add a comment with your holster order. Also be aware that your holster is not refundable if you're not happy with the fit because you have been warned.
Notice: The Surefire XC3 is not interchangeable in the same holster as the Streamlight TLR-7X/A/HL-X.

Next to each light is the Retention Rating (RR). It’s best to choose a weapon light that has a higher Retention Rating if you want a light that works well in the holster.
Not ideal example 3:
Surefire XVL2
Some weapon light models are not on this list because this list consists of weapon light models that we’ve tested and found to be conducive for KYDEX holster use.
The Surefire XVL2 is a very capable and feature rich weapon light, but it’s not ideal for use in a holster. For one reason or another, the designers of the XVL2 chose to employ an exposed o-ring which protrudes well beyond the battery housing. If you were to use this light in a holster, that o-ring will wear out and break. If moisture were to get into the housing, you will end up with a $1000 paper weight, all because of a $3 o-ring. We generally don’t build holsters for the XVL2 because we care about saving you time and money.
Not ideal example 4:
Holosun P.ID HC
We don't currently build for Holosun P.ID CH because the light is not conducive for KYDEX holster use. The Holosun has an undercut at the bottom which means that the light doesn't have any way to support your handgun for stability. That undercut will cause your handgun to feel loose in the holster. Notice that the bezel's line is lower than the light's body. That's how much your handgun might move in the holster up and down.
The Holosun P.ID CH also has the same issue as example #1 above (see here) with having a knurled bezel. Each Holosun P.ID CH may not be interchangeable with another on the same holster, because the bezel might be in a different position. This means we can’t stock it because our P.ID CH might be different from yours.
knowing these potential issues, if you still want a holster for your Holosun P.ID CH, we can build you a holster if you can send us your light. Just add a comment with your holster order.
